Terms and Conditions

  1. Singapore Creator Awards 2019 (“Competition”) is open to all Singapore Citizens, Permanent Residents and Foreigners based in Singapore. If you are below the age of 18 as of 01 January 2019, you are required to obtain your legal guardian/parent’s written consent and agreement to your participation in the Competition on these Terms and Conditions.
  2. The Competition is organised by SPH. Participants must submit their design entries to SPH via the official website for the Competition.
  3. DBS Bank Ltd (“DBS”) is the presenter for this Competition (“Presenter”). In conjunction with the Competition, DBS will offer an additional prize titled “DBS “Recycle More, Waste less” Award” (“Additional Prize”).
  4. Employees of the co-organising partners and their related corporations or of the Organisers’ partners and/or sponsors for the Competition, and their immediate family members (including spouses, children, parents, brothers and sisters) are not eligible to participate in the Competition. Winner(s) may be required to sign a written statement confirming their eligibility before prize collection.
  5. Participant affirms the accuracy of all information provided at the time of Competition entry. Any misrepresentation of any fact or particulars (deemed material by SPH) shall result in disqualification and/or the forfeiture, withholding, withdrawal or reclaiming of any prizes won.
  6. The participants will be notified to submit their prototypes to SPH by the deadline specified by SPH (the “Submission”). A panel of judges shall shortlist the top 10 designs from each of the two categories (the “Top 10 Designs”). Both members of the public and a panel of judges will then decide on the winners from the Top 10 Designs. Public voting will make up 20% of the score while the panel of judges’ votes will make up 80% of the score. All 10 shortlisted Participants must attend the Competition’s Prize Giving Ceremony on 10 May 2019 (or such other date as may be notified by SPH) for the announcement of the winners. SPH reserves the right, at any time in its sole and absolute discretion, to substitute, withdraw, add to or alter any of the prizes offered without notice to the Participants.
  7. In addition to being shortlisted for the Competition, participants may also indicate if they want their entry to be submitted for consideration for the Additional Prize.
  8. Designs are to be submitted in soft copy with at least 300 dpi resolution (JPEG format; 5MB Maximum), a design rationale (in English or Chinese, with no more than 400 words on choice of material, product features, marketability) and contact details (Full Name in English and Chinese (where applicable), email address and contact number).
  9. Each Participant is only allowed to submit up to three entries per category based on the theme of “Our Singapore Story” (“Theme”).
  10. Any design launched or published in retail market before 01 April 2019 will not be qualified for the Competition. Participants can use business, school or program name to enter the Competition. Group design meaning that more than one designer for one entry is acceptable.
  11. For the Graphic Design category, the Participant can submit a single design or a series of designs depicting the Theme.
  12. For the Lifestyle Product category, the Participant can submit photograph of a single design or a series of designs depicting the Theme, preferably from different angles. Only ACTUAL photographs are acceptable. Photograph marked with dimensions (Length x Width x Height in cm) is required. Computer generated/modified photographs will not be accepted. If the design consists of more than one item, please indicate the dimension and material individually.
  13. The design including picture, icon, symbol within, shall not in any way infringe any third party’s right, including but not limited to copyright, logos, trademark, or other proprietary rights.
  14. The top ten designs from each of the two categories will be judged and evaluated based on the following criteria based on the Theme:
      • 30% Relevance to the Theme (Refers to the ability of the design to convey the Theme;
      • 40% Originality and Creativity*;
      • 30% Adaptability
      • 30% Relevance to the Theme (Refers to the ability of the design to convey the Theme;
      • 30% Originality and Creativity*;
      • 20% Functionability;
      • 20% Marketability

    *The products are considered for their degree of innovation, aesthetic qualities and choice of materials.

  15. The Criteria for evaluation of the top 10 designs from each two categories which has also been submitted for consideration for the Additional Prize shall be evaluated based on the as follows:
    • 25% Design concept makes effective use of recycled/reused materials and encourages people to Recycle more, Waste less
    • 25% Originality and innovation
    • 25% Clearly defines the uniquely Singaporean environmental problem to be solved
    • 25% - Overall presentation
  16. Prizes are not transferable or exchangeable and non-cash prizes cannot be exchanged for cash. SPH accepts no responsibility for any tax or other liability that may arise from the prize winnings. Prizes are subject to availability and SPH has the right to substitute any prize for a comparable prize of equal or greater value to be awarded in lieu, subject to any applicable law.
  17. Winners are required to provide their particulars, including their email address, last 3 digits and the alphabet of NRIC/Passport/Identification number for the purpose of verification & audit. All prizes which are not won or remain unclaimed after two (2) months of the announcement of the winners will be forfeited. Winners from the Competition will be accorded the right to use the Competition logos, symbols and trophies for promotional or publicity purposes, on the condition that no modification is made to the Competition logos, symbols and trophies. They are to be represented in a dignified, respectful, and proper manner in accordance to the corporate identity guides and are subjected to the approval of the Competition Organising Committee.
  18. As a Participant, you consent to (i) our collection, use, disclosure and processing of your personal data according to the provisions of our Privacy Policy and (ii) that DBS, as Presenter, may use such personal data for the purposes of the Competition and/or the Additional Prize (including marketing and publicity campaigns).
  19. If the Participant’s photograph is taken in connection to this Competition and/or the Additional Prize ( e.g. during the award ceremony or interview), the Participant consents to SPH and/or the Presenter reusing and/or repurposing such photograph(s) without further notice or consent.
  20. Participant shall not, without the prior written approval of SPH, speaks to the press or any other media nor give any interviews or comments relating to the Competition.
  21. All decisions made by the Competition Organising Committee and Judging Panel in all matters relating to the Competition shall be final and binding.

Intellectual Property Rights

Each Participant consents to SPH and any of its group companies, to an unlimited right to use the Submission and the Participant’s name, likeness, photo, and any personal data for purposes of mentioning the Competition and the Submission in any media or collateral for promotional, advertising or other purposes, worldwide, in any and all media now known or hereafter devised, including the internet, without limitation and without further payment, notification, permission (including permission from any persons who participated in the creation of the Submission) or other consideration, except where prohibited by law. The same considerations shall also apply to the Winner and the final product.

Indemnity and Hold Harmless

The Participant agrees to fully indemnify, defend, and hold the Organisers and their related corporations or of the Organisers’ partners and/or sponsors for the Competition harmless from and against any and all claims, losses, costs, and expenses (including lawyer’s fees) incurred by them in connection with: (i) any falsification of information on the Submission by the Participant, (ii) any breach by the Participant of the Agreement, (iii) any breach by the Participant under any legally binding agreement, (iv) any misuse or misrepresentation of legally protected property by the Participant in relation to this Competition, and/or (v) the violation of any and all laws including but not limited to Singapore law as applicable.

The terms and conditions will be interpreted in accordance with the laws of Singapore.
